OCEAN CITY, Md.-- People on the Ocean City Boardwalk must now wear masks between 8 a.m. and 2 a.m. Mayor Rick Meehan's declaration goes into effect at 5 p.m. Friday.
The declaration was passed following Governor Larry Hogan’s expanded statewide order requiring face coverings in public spaces of all businesses in Maryland. Hogan's order also applies to outdoor public areas whenever it is not possible to maintain physical distancing.
Children under the age of five are exempt from Ocean City's new mask order. Masks are not required on the beach so long as people may stay six feet apart from those outside their household.
Mayor Rick Meehan says the town believes this is the right time to be more specific with regulations, staying in line with the Governor's policies.
"Ocean City will continue to take the all actions necessary to keep our residents, staff and visitors safe, as safety is always our top priority," Meehan says. "We urge everyone to please also continue practicing physical distancing, avoiding large gatherings and take all the same precautions you take at home when you’re visiting Ocean City. Taking these actions seriously and practicing personal responsibility will help us move Ocean City and the rest of the state forward.”
