OCEAN CITY, Md.- Ocean City police say they are "actively investigating" several incidents of violence that happened overnight. Mayor Rick Meehan said this type of behavior "has no place" in the resort town.
A video posted early Wednesday morning to social media shows a large crowd gathered on the boardwalk. At a certain point you see a man punch another man sitting on a bench. Several more punches are thrown. You later see more people from that crowd pull and drag the man from the bench before continuing to assault him.
There is no word yet on the condition of that man.
WBOC also obtained a copy of a video showing another fight that involved several people.
"We are looking at everything that occurred last night from call histories to social media," said Ocean City police spokesperson Ashley Miller when asked about the department's response to what happened.
On Wednesday afternoon Mayor Rick Meehan issued the following statement:
"The past few days have been extremely difficult for our community and our police department. The safety of our residents and our visitors remains our number one priority. We are equally disturbed by the actions displayed on social media videos depicting violence and unruly crowds. This behavior has no place in Ocean City and violence like this will not be tolerated. The Town and the OCPD are working immediately on addressing this disturbing behavior."
Last week the town said it was investigating an alleged use of force on a man by an Ocean City police officer after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.
