SNOW HILL, Md.- MEMBERS OF A CHURCH IN Wicomico COUNTY ARE WALKING FOR A GOOD CAUSE. THEIR pASTOR, WHO IS TERMINALLY ILL, IS DETERMINED TO STILL WALK with THE GROUP. THEY ARE BRINGING AWARENESS TO SUICIDE IN A very UNIQUE WAY.
Richard Pope is the pastor of canvas church in Salisbury. POPE, who is currently battling cancer, was holding a cross as he and other church members and family walk 100 MILES throughout Delmarva. Pope and his team want to shed LIGHT ON SUICIDE AND MENTAL HEALTH. he SAYS THE PURPOSE OF THIS JOURNEY IS TO UNITE THE COMMUNITY.
"the purpose is to bring raise awareness about suicide and we also want to share hope for our community. We believe there's hope outside of this world and we're just trying to bridge those two gaps between mental health and faith. Therefore, that's the journey," says Pope.
The walkers started their walk Monday morning at 6 a.m in at 6 a.m. in New Church, Va. FROM THERE, THEY WALKED AND CAME TO A stopping point in Snow Hill, Md. THEIR WALK WILL COME TO AN END ON FRIDAY IN DOWNTOWN Salisbury AND ONE MEMBER OF THE CHURCH SAYS SHE'S HAPPY TO HELP SPREAD THE MESSAGE.
"Well, I felt the urge from the beginning to do this. I think it's a great cause. spreading mental health awareness and just trying to get the word out on the gospel and just spread the message of hope to the community is what we seek to do," says Debra Reynolds.
PEOPLE WOULD BLOW THEIR HORNS AND STOP TO TAKE PICTURES OF THEM. THE WALKERS ARE HAPPY THAT they're REACHING THEIR GOAL.
