Two Arrested, One Sought in Salisbury Shooting

Markell Purnell

SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury police have arrested two suspects and are looking for a third in connection with a shooting that left a man injured in late October.

Police said that shortly before 2 a.m. Oct. 23, officers responded to Guido’s Burritos, 1303 S. Salisbury Boulevard, for reports of shots fired in the parking lot. Upon their arrival, officers observed that multiple vehicles in the parking lot had sustained damage by apparent gunfire.

Officers were also contacted to respond to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional where they met with a 25-year-old man who had sustained a non-life-threatening injury as the result of having been shot during the incident at Guido’s Burritos.

The investigation revealed that while the victim was in the Guido’s Burritos’ parking lot he got into an argument with three male suspects. Police said that one of the suspects then pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and began firing shots at the victim, resulting in the victim’s injury. The three suspects then got into a vehicle and fled from the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Salisbury police detectives were able to identify 23-year-old Anton Fooks, 21-year-old Jy’hovah Ballard, and 24-year-old Markell Purnell, all of Salisbury, as the three suspects involved in this incident.

Applications for charges were submitted to the District Court Commissioner’s Office and arrest

warrants were issued for all three men.

On Oct. 27, detectives located Fooks at a home

on the 300 block of Prince Street. He was taken into custody without incident.

On Nov. 17, members of the Capital Area Regional

Fugitive Task Force and Salisbury police detectives located Ballard at a home on the 700 block of Dennis Street. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Upon being taken into custody, Fooks and Ballard were both transported to the Salisbury Police Department and then later released to the Wicomico County Detention Center where they each had an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

Both Fooks and Ballard are charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree urder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use/violent crime, handgun on person, handgun in vehicle, malicious destruction of property, and conspiracy.

Detectives are still looking for Purnell, who is wanted on the same charges as Fooks and Ballard.

The investigation is ongoing and the Salisbury Police Department requests anyone with information
