ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Authorities say four people were rescued from the waters near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland on Thursday night when their boat overturned.

Maryland Natural Resources Police said that sometime after 9 p.m., officers  responded about half a mile south of the Bay Bridge for a report of a capsized boat. Police said a good Samaritan in the area spotted flare sightings, and when he got closer, he saw a 30-foot Cuddy Cabin pleasure boat capsized with three people nearby in the water.

Fireboats from Anne Arundel County and the Annapolis Fire Department arrived and located the overturned boat. Three occupants who were in the water had been removed by the good Samaritan and were on another boat.

Authorities said a fourth occupant was missing and believed to be inside the capsized boat's cabin. He was removed by an NRP diver. This occupant, an adult male, was taken to Sandy Point and then transported to Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police helicopter with symptoms consistent with hypothermia. The other three occupants declined medical treatment against advice, according to police.

A second Anne Arundel County fireboat located a second boat involved in the incident and it was then determined that this was the result of a collision. The second boat was disabled but the occupants were uninjured, police said.

Authorities did not immediately say what caused the vessel to overturn, or provide the identities of those involved.
