SALISBURY, Md.- Maryland State Police say a man had to be flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the car he was riding in was rear-ended on the Salisbury Bypass.
Police said the crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on the southbound lanes of the Salisbury Bypass just south of the Route 50 exit to Ocean City.
According to police, a Honda Civic operated by 49-year-old Wayne Mitchell of Snow Hill was traveling southbound in lane two of the bypass when the Civic was struck from behind by a Hyundai Elentra driven by 31-year-old Jalissa Rashan Worthy of Salisbury.
Troopers said a passenger in Mitchell's car, Charles Januska of Salisbury, had to be airlifted to Shock Trauma due to the severity of his injuries.
Police said an investigation into the crash revealed Worthy failed to reduce speed to avoid a collision, thus striking Mitchell’s car.
The southbound lanes of the Salisbury Bypass at the accident scene were closed for about an hour before being reopened.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, according to police.
