SALISBURY, Md.- Ferries in Wicomico County are changing their hours of operation due to new traffic counts.

Starting on May 16, the Whitehaven and Upper ferries are altering their summer hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The times used to be 6 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

This change comes as the county says new traffic counts show that 95 percent of the ferry usage occurs between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The time change will maximize ferry usage as it reduces the cost o running the ferry, according to Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver.

Other season hours will remain the same. The summer season ends on Sept. 15.
