Woman Dies In Mt. Vernon Mobile Home Fire

MT. VERNON, Md.- A Somerset County woman died in a mobile home fire Wednesday afternoon.

Maryland's Office of the State Fire Marshal investigated the Mt. Vernon fire. Just after 3 p.m., firefighters with the Mt. Vernon, Princess Anne, and Allen Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the blaze. A passerby saw the fire called for help. Deputies say it took about an hour and 25 firefighters to bring the fire under control.

The home was owned by Rosalyn Leatherbury. A 72-year-old woman died in the fire.

Deputy Fire Marshals from the Lower Eastern Regional Office were asked to come to the scene to investigate the fire, including the origin.

They determined the fire started in the living room. The exact cause remains under investigation.

Investigators estimate the loss to be about $50,000.

Maryland State Police were called to the scene to investigate the death. The woman's body has been taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and to determine the cause of death.
