SALISBURY, Md.- The Salisbury Fire Department has adjusting it's training to accommodate for some of the changes across the city. One being the new heights of the Ross Building in downtown Salisbury means a different approach to fighting fire. Deputy Chief Darrin Scott says the department has trained running fire hoses up and down all fourteen floors of the Ross.
"It is somewhat of a concern, they don't make a ladder truck tall enough to reach that, but we have a way. We go up and down the steps with the sides building to access the residence there to get them out of the building," said Scott. "Some of it is challenging, but we have multiple units responding just because of the building itself more manpower up another steps. It's a lot on our people as far as that goes, but we train we've been in their training."
Scott says despite the challenges, the Ross is one of the safest building when it comes to fire concerns.
"Well of course the Ross building is the tallest building that the city has. The building is state of the art, has one of the best alarm systems, sprinkler heads things like that fire pumps," said Scott.
