MAGNOLIA, Del.- A boat ramp near Magnolia is expected to close for nearly five months for reconstruction.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says the boat ramp at Scotton Landing (also known as Barkers Landing) on the St. Jones River off Trap Shooters Road near Magnolia will be closed starting Monday, November 7th. The fishing pier will also be closed.

DNREC says the project includes a new boat ramp, a new courtesy dock, and a repaved parking lot. Officials say the design of the new ramp includes extending it deeper into the water to help boaters launch at low tide, supporting the ramp with timber piles, and protecting the ramp from scouring with steel sheet piles.

The new courtesy dock will be L-shaped, which allows for easier maneuverability in the river for launching and temporary mooring while boaters retrieve their vehicle, will be installed.

Work is expected to be done by April 1st, weather permitting.

The nearest tidal boat ramps that may be used during the Scotton Landing closure are the Lebanon Landing and Bowers Beach Boat Ramps.
