DELMAR, DE - Services took place today for Carter Figgs, the Delmar High School junior who tragically passed away in a crash last Saturday. The services were held at the auditorium in Delmar High School. It was a day of mourning for the Delmar community as they said their final goodbyes to the teen. Hundreds, including, family, friends, and community members attended to remember the young footballer.
Several speakers took the stage to share their memories of Carter, emphasizing his determination, positivity, and laughter.
Delmar Football Coach David Hearn said in a speech it was the communities chance to outpour their love to the family.
Carters former Coach Treymont White reminisced on his last conversation with the teen in his speech,
“He told me he loved me, and I told him I loved him too, I never in a million years thought I would be in this spot right now.” said White.
Robert Searcey, Director of Facilities for Delmar School District, said they have been preparing for this day since Carter's tragic passing in a car crash the previous Saturday -- and that the schools staff will always come together to assist in times of need.
“It’s a huge undertaking to do something like this, when you’re burying a student it’s a loss for the entire community, we’re just glad as school employees to chip in and help anyway that we can." said Searcey.
A lawn sign sat at the entrance, inscribed "Forever 32."
