SMYRNA, Del. - A 15-year-old has been arrested on multiple charges including a felony after police say he ran a dirt bike into an eight-year-old at a Smyrna park on Friday.

The Smyrna Police Department says officers were called to Sunnyside Park in Smyrna’s Sunnyside Development on May 15 on reports of a child being struck by a dirt bike. The ensuing investigation revealed that the eight-year-old was playing on a basketball court when another juvenile ran into him while illegally riding a dirt bike, according to police. The child was taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital for his injuries.

Police then searched the area, eventually locating a 15-year-old alleged to have been operating the dirt bike at the time. The teen was brought to the Smyrna Police Department and charged with the following:

-Assault Second Degree (Felony)

-Reckless Endangering Second Degree

-Vehicular Assault Second Degree

-Various OHV Violations

The suspect was released on a $12,005 unsecured bond with a hearing pending in the Kent County Family Court.
