SUSSEX COUNTY, DE - The Sussex County Council considered various ordinances concerning potential solar farm development at todays meeting. One potential array has received backlash regarding it's proximity to The Ridings at Rehoboth neighborhood in Lewes.

Dolce Zilg, a resident of the Ridings neighborhood in Lewes, expressed major concerns about the proposed solar farm, and says it's too close to comfort.

“Give one example of an actual on-going solar farm right next to a development because it doesn’t exist.” said Zilg.

She worries about potential property value decreases and concerns regarding health with an electrical facility in such proximity. Zilg presented a petition from the neighborhood against the development with over 250 signatures.

The developers, Soltage, say they have a record of and are committed to being good neighbors. They assure that the solar array would be designed with safety and would include a border of trees to mitigate any visual impact. Their Director of Development, Zac Meyer, says they will always rely on fact.

“It’s important to have good sources of information, we rely on government, university, peer review journal, their is a increasing concern of misinformation around this topic.” said Zac Meyer, Director of Development at Soltage.

The council deferred the vote on the ordinance to a later date, siting a need to review the information further.
