BERLIN, M.d - A potential solar panel farm could make its way to Main Street in Berlin.
Approximately 157 acres would be used for the farm, located Northwest of MD Route 50 and MD Route 113.
Berlin Mayor Zack Tyndall says the farm would connect to Delmarva Power's electric utility, not the town of Berlin's. He also says the land is used for farming right now, but the zoning for thew site is commercial. There's been no change in the zoning since it was introduced.
Tourist Kelly Pettit says she's seen many farms where she's from.
"I think they're a good idea," she says. "I think we need to talk about renewable energy versus fossil fuels."
Mayor Tyndall adds that Berlin has been working with the potential developer to make sure there's a larger than normal vegetative buffer. The town does not want to create a visual disturbance to the community. If this farm moves forward, it would drive tax based revenue in the town of Berlin he says.
A meeting will be held tomorrow for the public to comment. It will be held at the Worcester County Library in Berlin at 6:30 p.m.
