Skateboarder in OCMD

Yesterday, the State Board of Public Works approved $300,000 in state funding for a proposed skatepark.

BERLIN, M.d - Yesterday, the State Board of Public Works approved $300,000 in state funding for a proposed skatepark.

The site of the park would be at Heron Park, along Old Ocean City Boulevard. It's proposed to be 14,000 to 16,000 square feet.

A bowl, quarter pipes, and a pump track will all be included in the park.

Chauncey Rhodes is the store manager at Viking Tree Trading Co. in Downtown Berlin. He says he thinks every community needs a skatepark.

According to Rhodes, the project has been talked about for several years.

It's just an overall really cool thing to include everybody," he says. "I think skateboarding is, I think it builds confidence with a lot of young kids."

Berlin's Mayor Zack Tyndall says the town is waiting for a formal award letter from the state before moving forward with the park. He also adds that the goal is to advance the project toward construction as quickly as possible.
