SELBYVILLE, Del. - Sussex County came together today to support one another after a tragedy.
On Aug. 14, a truck plowed into local Fenwick Island restaurant, Mancini's Brick Oven Pizzeria, killing an 80-year-old woman and seriously injuring her 17-year-old granddaughter.
The truck went through the front wall by the host stand. destroying the restaurant. Mancini's said none of their employees were hurt.
To help Mancini's re-open, the Crabcake Factory Bayside held a "Crabcakin' for a Cause" fundraiser, where 20% of the restaurant's sales from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. would be donated to Mancini's. There was a silent auction, raffle, and live music.
Mancini's owner Gabriel Mancini says the support from the community has been overwhelming.
"This isn't a one off for this community; they come together every time there's adversity... It's amazing how this community comes together, it's not just the town, it's not just Fenwick, it's not just Ocean City, it's not Bethany, it's everyone," Mancini says.
The staff at Crabcake Factory Bayside understand what Mancini's is going through all too well, as a car crashed into the side of their restaurant back in January. One of their employees was hurt.
Crabcake Factory Bayside owner Jeff Mushrush says he did not think twice about setting up the fundraiser for Mancini's.
"That's the whole thing is we're giving back, what they gave us, we are now forwarding. You know that's the proper thing to do, and this community, lower Sussex Delaware, amazing. Amazing," says Mushrush.
Crabcake Factory Bayside also says The Delaware Restaurant Foundation is accepting donation checks to support Mancini's.
