Flooding in Laurel

SUSSEX COUNTY, DE - Sussex County is dealing with the aftermath of last night's storms that rocked the region. Towns like Delmar, Gumboro, and Lewes all saw over 5 inches of rainfall -- and other towns such as Georgetown, Seaford, and Laurel are still suffering from heavy flooding.

For Robert Hathaway in Seaford, his home unexpectedly transformed into a waterfront property overnight. Hathaway spent the day directing traffic out of still water and clearing debris from nearby farms off the road to maintain some semblance of order.

"I got a foot of water standing in my front yard, it’s almost like fishing property. We got cars coming up and down the road splashing up in front of my house. I don’t need those waves crashing in front of my house." said Hathaway.

Further challenges unfolded in Laurel, where Horsey Church Road was closed and almost unrecognizable, with the road and adjacent farms submerged in floodwaters.

Norman W. Hastings, who lives on Horsey Church, said he knew the rain would be bad -- but hasn't seen the flooding this severe on his property in years.

"66 years, this is only the second time that we have had this situation. The flooding is pretty bad today, but about 15 years ago, we had rain identical to this." said Hastings.
