GREENSBORO, Md. - The Greensboro Police Department has welcomed a new, yet familiar, face to its ranks—Mosley, a three-legged Labrador retriever who has returned to duty after a brief retirement.
Mosley previously served with the Federalsburg Police Department.
“Mosley is a 10-year-old lab. She’s been through... she’s been through a lot,” said Sgt. Jeff Adams, her longtime partner. "She went through radiation, amputation, the chemo... more than what most people could endure,” Adams added.
Cancer cost Mosley one of her legs, but it hasn’t slowed her down. Her energy and instincts remain sharp.
Mosley had officially retired when Adams accepted a new role with the Greensboro Police Department. The plan was for her to rest—but that didn’t sit well with either of them.
Adams quickly saw a need for Mosley to return when he noticed a shortage of K-9 units across the county.
“Chief and I were dropping off a vehicle in Easton, and one of the Easton officers had to travel all the way to Marydel, which is a 45-minute ride, to conduct a canine scan,” Adams said.
With only two trained K-9s in Caroline County, resources are stretched thin. On some days, both dogs may be busy or unavailable—leaving a crucial gap in coverage.
That’s where Mosley comes in.
“She still wants to work. Still beats me to the door every time she sees my vest. Even this morning,” Adams said.
So, Mosley is back—not for accolades or treats, but because she can. And maybe because she knows she’s still needed.
Adams said Mosley has received a clean bill of health. She will work within a 10-mile radius, covering Marydel, Denton, and Ridgely.
