BETHANY, Del.- The bicyclist who died after being hit by a car last week in Bethany has been identified.

Delaware State Police say 71-year-old Joseph Jezyk, of Hockessin, died on Thursday.

On Tuesday, DSP says Jezyk was riding on the shoulder of Coastal Highway near the Indian River Inlet Bridge around 11 a.m. Jezyk then reportedly turned left crossing in front of an oncoming car and was hit, according to authorities. Investigators say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the car, a 62-year-old Ocean View man, was not injured.

Both southbound lanes of Coastal Highway were closed for about 2.5 hours to investigate the crash and remove any debris from the roadway.

Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Senior Corporal J.
