SEAFORD, DE - The Delaware State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash on Sussex Highway in Seaford that left an 88-year-old Laurel man dead Sunday night.

According to authorities, at about 9:15 p.m. on December 3rd, a Dodge Grand Caravan was stopped on the shoulder of Sussex Highway just south of Ockles Road. Police say the 88-year-old driver of the Dodge exited the car into the right lane of the highway, in front of an approaching Lincoln Town Car. The man was not wearing any reflective clothing, and the Lincoln struck him, throwing him into the roadway towards the grass median.

The 88-year-old, identified as Wayne Jaggers, of Laurel, died at the scene.

The driver on the Lincoln, a 68-year-old Delmar man, was uninjured.

Police say the roadway was closed for about 3.5 hours as the scene was cleared and investigated. That investigation is ongoing, and police ask witnesses to call them at 302-703-3266.
