VIRGINIA - Certain purchases made in Virginia from now until Sunday at 11:59 p.m. can be sales tax-free.
School supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products are all eligible to be tax-exempt.
School supplies must be $20 or less per item, and clothing and footwear must be $100 or less per item to qualify.
Portable generators must be $1,000 or less, gas-powered chainsaws $350 or less, chainsaw accessories $60 or less, and other specified hurricane preparedness items $60 or less.
Qualifying Energy Star or WaterSense products must be bought for non-commercial home or personal use, and must be $2,500 or less per item to be tax-exempt.
The sales tax holiday ends Aug. 9 at 11:59 p.m.
