It’s been over a week since a powerful nor’easter battered Bowers Beach, and restoration efforts remain underway to rebuild and strengthen the dunes.

State, local, and federal leaders gathered Friday at the Indian River Inlet to review projects completed over the past year and discuss upcoming efforts to help protect Delaware's coastline.

In one of his final acts before stepping out of public office, Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) is helping to secure millions of dollars in federal funding for Delaware's coastal communities. The Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024 recently passed both the House and the Senate. 

Rising costs for beach replenishment have put the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) in a tough spot, prompting them to consider alternative funding methods. This includes potentially asking coastal towns to contribute finically.
