TANGIER ISLAND, Va. -- Neighbors on Tangier Island and Smith Island are facing significant challenges as large chunks of ice surround the islands, making travel to and from the mainland nearly impossible.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. -- Life on the water becomes increasingly difficult when temperatures drop, especially when frigid conditions create thick ice in nearly all of the peninsula's waterways.

SALISBURY, Md. — Maryland's Department of Natural Resources icebreaking vessels have been working throughout the week to clear frozen waterways across the region, helping maintain access for local and commercial traffic.

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY. -- Throughout this week, Chopper 16 has given us a unique vantage point of icy waterways across the peninsula. We were back up in the air again on Thursday, this time over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
