One world-renowned pair of classically-trained musicians has decided to record and share online one music video for every day they spend in isolation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Elena Urioste, violinist and artistic director of the annual Chamber Music by the Sea festival in Worcester County, Md., along with her husband, pianist Tom Poster, on March 17 launched #UriPosteJukeBox, a combination of their last names with a nod to a more old-time method of enjoying music.
According to Urioste, she and Poster asked their online following what they might like to hear in the coming weeks and received numerous requests, from Mozart and Messiaen to Britney Spears, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and various Disney medleys.
As of Monday, April 27, Urioste and Poster had uploaded 41 videos featuring a wide variety of numbers from different music genres.
In an email to WBOC about the videos they are recording at their home in Philadelphia during this period of unemployment, Urioste said, "We know many of our more isolated friends have gained comfort and connection from watching them each day, and of course it's been a wonderful way for us to feel connected with friends across the world."
