GEORGETOWN, Del. - More road construction is coming to Sussex County. DelDOT announced a new roundabout to be built in Georgetown at the intersection of Rt. 9 and Sand Hill Road.
Work on the road itself will begin on January 25th.
DelDOT believes the new circle will create a safer, more efficient intersection.
DelDOT Director of Community Relations C.R. McLeod said, "Sussex County continues to grow, so we wanna make sure that we're accommodating that growth as much as we can and making sure that we are moving traffic as efficiently as possible, east and west, and north and south, across Sussex County."
Ruth Hubbs from Millsboro says traffic circles are too confusing for her, "I don't like it, I don't like it at all. I don't like circles, doesn't matter where they are, I just don't like them."
A portion of Sand Hill Road will be closed until the roundabout is completed in April, and detours will be posted along Shingle Point Road, Briarwood Road, and Rt. 9.

Hubbs says road closures can be frustrating, but are worth it in the end.
"It's all for the best, I think they should have started a long time ago, but, I'm fine with it," she said.
The intersection is surrounded by the Georgetown Cheer Center, Sandhill Fields and the Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences. DelDOT says the construction won't hurt those organizations.
"As with any project, we know that it can be impactful to surrounding businesses or organizations and residents," said McLeod, "So we want to make sure that we are accommodating their needs as best as possible while we're completing this work."
DelDOT says this project is only a part of the larger Georgetown East Gateway Project -- which was funded in part by $7 million federal grant to the state.
DelDOT says the overall project will take longer than this roundabout, and will create a safer and more efficient gateway into downtown Georgetown.
