Man Arrested for Attempted Murder Inside South Salisbury Wawa Store

Miles Jefferson

SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say a 37-year-old man is in custody following an attempted robbery turned attempted murder inside the Wawa convenience store on South Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury.

Salisbury police said that shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, an officer was on routine patrol in the area of the Wawa observed a commotion coming from the business. The officer immediately approached and observed a 55-year-old man lying on the ground. The victim appeared to have suffered lacerations as a result of being cut with a sharp object.

Salisbury EMS responded and transported the victim to TidalHealth

Peninsula Regional, which is nearby. Police said the victim’s injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.

The investigation conducted by Salisbury Police officers and detectives revealed that a suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Miles Jefferson, entered the Wawa and went behind the service counter that is only meant for employees. Police said Jefferson suspect grabbed an item from behind the counter and began to walk toward the exit. Police said a witness intervened and tried to stop Jefferson from leaving with the stolen item. A struggle ensued and a second witness intervened. Jefferson then allegedly removed a sharp object that he had concealed and ultimately cut the second witness multiple times, according to police.

Jefferson then ran away from the store, according to police. Through the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify and confirm Jefferson, who has no fixed address, as the suspect. Officers located him on the 500 block of South Salisbury Boulevard and shortly thereafter placed him under arrest for attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, concealed deadly weapon, robbery, and theft.

Jefferson was transported to the Salisbury Police Department and later to the Wicomico County Detention Center to be seen by a District Court Commissioner.
