FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 83°F. Normal low: 61°F.
Unseasonably hot temperatures have arrived on Delmarva, with quite a bit of humidity, pushing the heat indices into the 100s.
With all of this heat and humidity, and several impulses of energy from the west, we are likely going to trigger a few thunderstorms Thursday evening. This will be one of those situations where not everyone sees a thunderstorm, but where a thunderstorm does develop, damaging winds, hail, lightning, and heavy downpours will be the main threats. There is a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather Thursday evening, with the highest threat on the Midshore and over Delaware.
Friday will be a repeat of Thursday, with hot afternoon highs in the mid 90s. The day starts out partly to mostly sunny, with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms, some strong to severe with damaging winds and a potential for hail. All of Delmarva is again under a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather Friday.
We will clear things out for the weekend behind a cold front, which will be mostly sunny. But it won't be much cooler, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Humidity will be quite a bit more comfortable, though. The beaches will definitely be popular locations, and the Ocean City Air Show should not have any significant weather issues beyond the warm temperatures.
Another chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Sunday evening into early Monday, and then again on Tuesday as a cold front approaches and several disturbances cross the region from the southwest. Temperatures will return to more seasonable levels.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to near above normal, and precipitation above normal for Jun 18 - Jun 24.
In the Tropics: A disturbance expected to enter the Bay of Campeche has a low, 10 percent, chance of development in the next 7 days. It is not a threat to Delmarva at this time.
