FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 81°F. Normal low: 61°F.

As we enter the second half of the work week, things are turning hot and stormy.

As an increasingly hot and humid air mass moves into the Mid-Atlantic, we'll have a series of disturbances that will trigger showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoons and evenings.

With lots of moisture and warm air to work with, thunderstorms Wednesday evening could feature damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, and torrential downpours that could cause ponding of water on roadways. There is a Level 1 "Marginal" threat for severe weather Wednesday evening.

The threat for severe weather continues on Thursday. The day will start off partly to mostly sunny, allowing temperatures to soar into the mid 90s, with heat indices in the 100° to 105°F range. With abundant heat and humidity, another afternoon disturbance could trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms. With the heat, and cooler air aloft, in addition to damaging winds, a threat for large hail will come with any thunderstorms. Delmarva is under a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather Thursday.

Friday will be a repeat of Thursday, with hot afternoon highs in the mid 90s. The day starts out partly to mostly sunny, with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms, some strong to severe with damaging winds and a potential for hail. All of Delmarva is again under a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather Friday.

We will clear things out for the weekend behind a cold front, which will be mostly sunny. But it won't be much cooler, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. The beaches will definitely be popular locations, and the Ocean City Air Show should not have any significant weather issues beyond the warm temperatures.

Another chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives on Monday into Tuesday as a cold front approaches and several disturbances cross the region from the southwest.

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average above normal, and precipitation above normal for Jun 17 - Jun 23.

In the Tropics: A disturbance expected to enter the Bay of Campeche has a low, 10 percent, chance of development in the next 7 days. It is not a threat to Delmarva at this time.
