FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 61°F. Normal low: 40°F.

A powerful storm system will bring widespread severe weather to much of the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Midwest and Rust Belt Wednesday into Thursday; we could see some effects from this storm system on Delmarva, but they should be mostly minor.

High pressure is situated off the southeast U.S. coast. As the powerful storm system develops and moves east, most of the rain and severe weather from this storm will pass to our north along a stationary boundary on the northern periphery of the high.

However, this boundary will be close enough to Delmarva that we could see some weather along the boundary affect our communities.

What we'll notice is mainly warm temperatures Thursday through Sunday. I am going to include a daily chance for showers and thunder during the time, just in case this boundary wobbles far enough south each day to bring showers or storms to Delmarva, with the Maryland Midshore and Delaware most likely to see this weather. In fact, Delmarva is under a Level 1 "Marginal" threat for severe weather on Thursday. It's not very likely that we will see a storm Thursday, however should a storm develop, there will be a low threat for damaging winds, hail, and a brief tornado.

The proximity of that boundary will also mess with our temperatures. There will be a sharp contrast in temperatures on either side of the boundary, so should the boundary wobble far enough south, temperatures could end up 10 to 15 degrees cooler than forecast, so keep the light jackets nearby!

A more substantial storm system could bring strong storms to Delmarva Sunday night into Monday, followed by cooler temperatures

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average below normal, and precipitation near normal for April 9 - April 15.
