FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 72°F. Normal low: 50°F.

We're now in day 2 of a period of cloudy, and at times, thundery, weather.

Low pressure continues to spin over the Ohio River Valley to our west, which is feeding warm and humid Gulf air into the Mid-Atlantic region. A small low-level jet is allowing for the development of thunderstorms Monday afternoon, starting in areas west of the Chesapeake Bay, with some storms over Delmarva Monday evening. The greatest threat for strong storms is west of the Bay, but there is a low, Level 1 threat for severe weather, mainly west of Route 113 on Delmarva. Damaging wind gusts and some hail (in addition to downpours and lightning) will be the main threats in any storms.

As the aforementioned low continues to spin to our west, we'll see another day of mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers on Tuesday.

The low will finally start to head off to the northeast mid-week, allowing an area of high pressure to briefly settle in over Delmarva, meaning mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. With some impulses of energy likely to swing around the backside of the departing low, far northern parts of Delmarva could see some increase cloud cover or even a brief shower, but for most it should be a nice day.

Then another front and potentially a coastal low will bring more scattered showers to the region for Thursday and Friday.

Longer-range guidance, at least as of Monday afternoon, is suggesting next weekend should be delightful, with mostly sunny skies and seasonable temperatures in the 70s.

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average above normal, and precipitation below normal for May 12 - May 18.
