Friday and Saturday will bring plenty of sunshine and some of the hottest weather of the stretch. Afternoon highs will reach the low 90s inland, with upper 80s closer to the coast, thanks to generally southwesterly winds. With the humidity, it will feel closer to 100 degrees at times, with heat index values reaching around 100 to 101 degrees.
As is typical of summertime, the heat and humidity will also bring chances for pop-up thunderstorms. Friday will have a better chance for a shower or storm, especially Friday evening and into the overnight hours, with a 50 percent chance of rain. Saturday will be a bit more isolated, with a 20 percent chance of a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon, increasing again Saturday evening and overnight.
This will be a situation where not everyone sees a thunderstorm, but any storm that does develop could bring heavy downpours and frequent lightning. So, keep your eyes to the skies, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
By Sunday, the pattern turns quieter, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 90. The heat and humidity stick around into early next week, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing back into the low 90s Monday and Tuesday.
Our next chance for more widespread storms arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday as a cold front approaches and crosses the region. That could bring a better chance for showers and thunderstorms, followed by somewhat cooler temperatures in the upper 80s Wednesday and Thursday. Rain chances could linger through Thursday, with another chance for showers as we head toward the end of the week.
