FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 73°F. Normal low: 52°F.
Unsettled, and at times quite wet, weather is in the forecast for the next several days on Delmarva.
Low pressure is developing over the Deep South. East of the low, we're seeing increasing southeasterly winds developing along the Eastern Seaboard. As a warm front slides up the coast, rain will overspread much of the region west of the Chesapeake Bay Monday evening, with lighter showers overspreading Delmarva during the overnight.
Periods of on-and-off rain are expected on Tuesday, so umbrellas will be a must-have as you head out the door. While the heaviest rain is expected to stay west of the Chesapeake Bay, we're still expecting some decent rainfall amounts over Delmarva, in the 1" to 1.5" range. There is a possibility for localized flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Ponding of water on roadways is also possible in heavier rain. While there isn't much forcing for thunderstorms, I don't want to rule out a few rumbles of thunder, especially Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The low slowly moves north into the Ohio River Valley late Tuesday into Wednesday. With the warm front to our north, we'll see warm temperatures Wednesday climbing to near 80°F with showers and thunderstorms becoming more scattered in nature, so keep the umbrellas nearby.
As the low departs to the northeast by Thursday, a weak cold front keeps pop-up showers and thunderstorms in the forecast, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
Another frontal boundary approaches on Friday. Under an upper ridge, temperatures over Delmarva will climb well into the 80s Friday and Saturday (of course, a little cooler at the coast). With such warm air over Delmarva, the front could trigger some pop-up showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening Friday and Saturday.
Quiet, but warm, weather is in the forecast for Sunday, which is shaping up to be the better day of the weekend.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to average near normal, and precipitation above normal for May 19 - May 25.
