Bicyclist Hit by Car Pulling Out of Ocean City Driveway

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Maryland State Police say a bicyclist in Ocean City was injured after being hit by a car pulling out of a driveway Thursday afternoon.

According to state police, troopers responded to an accident in the area of Winding Trail Dr. and MD Route 611 just after 4 p.m. Troopers said late Thursday night that 61-year-old James Simmons, of Ocean City, was stopped in a driveway on Winding Trail Drive when he proceeded onto Route 611, hitting a bicyclist that was traveling northbound on the southbound shoulder. 

Police said the bicyclist, identified as 21-year-old Yesenia Gutierrez, also of Ocean City, was transported to Atlantic General Hospital with minor injuries to her left leg. Simmons was not injured in the incident.

Police said Simmons had checked both ways before proceeding out of the driveway, but merely failed to see Gutierrez. No charges were filed.
