ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. - Convicted Accomack County arsonist Tonya Bundick has entered an Alford Plea to her remaining 61 counts against her. Bundick will now serve a total of 17 and a half years behind bars for her crimes.
Bundick's third trial was set to get underway Monday morning in Virginia Beach. However, Bundick entered the new plea ending her time in court. By entering an Alford Plea, Bundick is not admitting guilt, but acknowledging there is enough evidence for a jury to be able to find her guilty.
Bundick still faced a total of 52 felonies and nine misdemeanors. Bundick was sentenced on Monday for those remaining charges after entering the Alford Plea. The sentence on those charges will be served concurrently, totaling seven years. Bundick was sentenced to three and a half years behind bars after her first trial, and seven years after her second trial bringing her total jail time to 17 and a half years.
The charges against Bundick stem from an arson spree that plagued Accomack County from November of 2012 and April of 2013. Bundick's ex-fiance, Charles Smith, was also arrested and charged for the spree. Smith plead guilty to 67 counts of arson on October 31st, 2013.. A sentencing date for Smith has yet to be set in Accomack County.
