Captain of Sunk Boat Urging Others to be Prepared

OCEAN CITY, Md. - The captain of Knot Stressed, the boat that sunk Monday, is now urging other boaters to make sure they have all the necessary life saving equipment. The captain, Bryan Martz, says he is always prepared when he goes out on the water and now wants others to be as well.

"As a captain I was pretty insistent that the boat was outfitted the right way so I know a lot of guys run off shore without a life raft, my recommendation is get one on the boat fellas," Martz said.

The coast guard requires having enough life jackets for everyone on board. They also recommend having an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) which Martz had on board when his boat began taking on water.

"Once everyone was in life gear I handed one an EPIRB, I said put this on your vest. I handed one a hand held radio, I said put this on your vest, and the other I gave an N reach radio which also has a locator on it," Martz said.

All six of the men were rescued by the Fish Bone, another vessel that was competing in the White Marlin Open. For their actions, the crew of the Fish Bone will get another day to fish. The crew of the Knot stressed plan to fish again Wednesday.
