DelDOT Seeking Public Comment on Proposed Park Avenue Changes

GEORGETOWN, Del.- The Delaware Department of Transportation is asking members of the public to share their thoughts on a multi-million dollar plan to change Park Avenue in Georgetown.

The roadway serves as the truck route around Georgetown. DelDOT says realigning and expanding the road will improve safety and traffic flow. In a 122 page environmental assessment, the agency writes the area has more crashes than the county and state average.

DelDOT is accepting public comment on the environmental assessment until July 17. Sen. Brian Pettyjohn says this is the time for those who call Georgetown home to shape a long-awaited project.

"It's something that has been talked about for decades at this point in time. I remember hearing about it when I was in high school," he says. "So it's about time we are actually getting some good movement on this project that will hopefully be an economic driver for the area, number one, and number two: increase safety for the area."

DelDOT's preferred alternative will impact some private and county property. It will also allow for the Delaware Coastal Airport to expand. Public comments can be submitted via email to John.Caruano@state.de.us or by mail, attention to: Park Avenue Relocation, P.O. Box 778, Dover, DE 19903. All comments must be received by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
