Digital COVID-19 Vaccination Cards Now Available for Talbot County Residents

EASTON, Md.- Talbot County boasts the highest COVID-19 vaccination rate on the Eastern Shore.

Now everyone either living in or vaccinated in Talbot County will be able to show proof of vaccination right on their smartphone.

Charles O'Donnell of Easton still wears a mask regularly and has been vaccinated.

O'Donnell says his vaccine card is laminated, so he won't be going the digital route. But he supports it for others.

"If people want to do that, it should be their option. I think that's fine."

O'Donnell says should privacy or hacking concerns arise, he doesn't believe a vaccination record is all that private.

"What are they going to pick up? That you got a vaccination. There's not any info that I'm aware on that card that would be a problem," he continued.

Stephen Ray is also vaccinated. He sees the digital vax card's purpose, but won't be signing up for it himself.

"I guess the card is a good way to prove, if you're going into an organization."

"Well I have the cheap phone, so I wouldn't want that," he said.

The Talbot County Health Department says the digital platform is HIPPA compliant.

Health Department officials also stress this isn't just a copy of your physical vaccine card. But instead, an authenticated version verified against Maryland state records.

That means if you lose your card, you can still access your vaccine info on your phone.
