HARRINGTON, Del. - A Dover man is facing charges from the Bethany Beach and Harrington police departments after officers say he attempted to get away during a traffic stop.
Harrington police said on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. they got word that 30-year-old Danny Harding Jr. of Dover would be driving through Harrington and that he had active warrants out of Bethany Beach, as well as active capias out of the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.
According to police, officers found Harding inside a car parked on Cozy Wood Court in Harrington and took him into custody.
While Harding was being escorted to a patrol car, police said he ran away, leading officers on a chase. A Harrington officer used a department-issued taser on Harding and then took him into custody, according to police.
A computer check revealed that the warrants out of Bethany Beach were the result of a car chase on April 24, when Harding led officers on a chase before crashing his car and running away.
Police said that a search of Harding's car turned up 1.6 grams of marijuana, .165 grams of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Officers said he was also driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Harding was charged by Harrington police with possession of marijuana, possession or consumption of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Bethany Beach police said they charged him with reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer's signal, resisting arrest and other traffic violations.
Harding was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute after being issued a $2,500 unsecured bond for the Harrington charges and a $3,505 secured bond for the Bethany Beach charges, according to police.
