ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Michael Miller, a former U.S. Naval Academy superintendent, will retire next month after being reprimanded by the Navy as part of an investigation into a bribery and fraud scandal.
The Navy announced Miller's retirement grade determination Friday. He will retire Aug. 1 at the rank of vice admiral, the same rank he held as superintendent.
Miller announced his retirement last July, after four years as superintendent. His retirement was postponed a year, because of the investigation into Navy contracts for port services in southeast Asia where he commanded Carrier Strike Group 7. He has been working as a special assistant at the academy.
Miller was reprimanded in January with two other officers for improperly accepting gifts from a "prohibited source."
