DOVER, Del. --- Delaware Gov. John Carney (D) has signed the state's $4.2 billion operating budget for the fiscal year beginning on July 1.
The budget was also signed alongside SB 236, a supplemental $49 million spending bill that includes one-time bonuses for state employees and supplements for pensioners and one-time funded priority projects.
State employees will also receive $1,000 bonuses and teachers will see a 2 percent pay hike in addition to step increases.
The budget also includes the second year of correctional officer pay raises to boost starting salaries to $43,000 and $3.6 million in spending for the implementation of a correctional officer career ladder.
However, lawmakers have not approved a Grant-in-Aid package that will include restored funding for nonprofits like fire companies and senior centers. Those groups saw a 20 percent cut to the state grant money amid last year's budget crisis.
