HARBESON, Del. – In a public meeting Wednesday night, representatives for the United State’s Postal Service reassured residents it will relocate its soon-to-be closed post office within Harbeson’s zip code.
News it’s current location on Rt. 9 would be closing Dec. 29 initially had some who live in Harbeson worried they might lose their post office altogether. David M. Wolff, real estate specialist for the USPS, quelled that fear Wednesday night, telling residents in attendance that it would find a new location in Harbeson as quickly as possible.
Over the phone, Wolff told WBOC that there are several locations it is considering. The specifics behind those locations could not be confirmed but Wolff said the USPS is working as quickly as possible to put plans in place.
As for the reason behind the December closure of the post office's current location, development company Becker Morgan Group, Inc., said plans were recently approved to build a new Royal Farms convenience store on the property where it sits.
Following the Harbeson Post Office closing, residents who have a P.O. Box will have to use the post office in Georgetown until the new location in Harbeson reopens. A timeline for reopening has not been made clear.
