DOVER, Del.- The Delaware Department of Justice says 31-year-old Harrington man was sentenced to 28 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and related charges for shooting at a Delaware state trooper.
Back in July of 2016, troopers responded to a call of a man with a gun at the Alder Run Apartments just south of Dover. Police identified the man as Aaron Purnell, following a description from witnesses. Prosecutors said that when the troopers tried to pursue him, Purnell ran from the first one and fired one shot at him. He missed the trooper, who eventually took Purnell into custody a short time later after finding him hiding in a nearby backyard.
In addition to his attempted murder guilty plea, Purnell pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Upon completion of his prison sentence, Purnell will be placed on two years of probation.
