WICOMICO COUNTY, Md.- Wicomico County officials say that due to heavy rainfall Tuesday, the county road system experienced significant problems with flooding.
Civic Avenue in Salisbury was closed. Two sheriff's deputies sat on either end of the flooded portion of the road to discourage drivers from attempting to travel through the water. Booth Street and Mineola Avenue in the Salisbury area also experiencing flooded.
Officials said Athol Road near Mardela Springs also flooded and lost part of the roadway. Officials with the Wicomico County Roads division tell WBOC the flood waters washed away a portion of the road's shoulder near the intersection with Porter Mill Road. Fortunately, those officials said the problem turned out to be minor in nature.
Several WBOC viewers also sent in photos of flooding in Fruitland, with high water in both streets and yards.
Deep water signs have been placed in different areas throughout the county. Several motorists were disabled after driving through excessive water on flooded streets.
City of Salisbury officials also issued a similar weather advisory. They urged drivers to slow down in areas where ponding is evident, and to find alternate routes where streets were impassable.
