GUMBORO, Del. -- Winter is wearing thin on people all across Delmarva as a late season storm arrived Sunday covering some areas with snow and ice.
On the first day of March, meteorologists agree Sunday's winter storm is late in the season, but seeing ice and snow storms this time of year is not unheard of on Delmarva.
Some people in Sussex County were thinking last week's snow fall would've been winter's final exit before temperatures start rising to spring levels again.
But Sunday morning's encore of snowfall in Sussex County which later turned into freezing rain is yet another sign that winter's not quite over yet.
"It's been a tough winter for everybody, it's been cold," said Scott McCaig who was filling up at a gas station in Millsboro as freezing rain poured down.
"I wasn't expecting [this] after all the snow we've got recently because we usually don't have this much snow in a row," said Ian Thurman of Milton, who's been able to benefit from the prolonged winter season.
"I'm not too mad about it. I'm out making money selling firewood, snow removal, all that kind of stuff," said Thurman.
Harold Pontious was eating out a Gumboro diner with his mother and brother Sunday afternoon as it rained heavily outside. Pontious said he's ready for warmer days.
"I am more than ready for spring. I just can't wait for the roads to stop being icy. I get nervous out there driving on the roads," said Pontious.
After Sunday's brief bout of freezing rain, DelDot said the roads will likely freeze overnight and drivers should expect icy conditions to last through Monday morning.
