BERLIN, Md. - An Accomack County man is facing a concealed weapons charge after police say they found him in possession of a lighter containing a switchblade.
According to Berlin police, an officer made contact with 20-year-old Devon Lockley of New Church on Sunday just before midnight when the officer stopped the car Lockley was riding in on Route 113 at Burley Street in Berlin. Police say the car smelled like burnt marijuana, and Lockley told the officer he did have a small amount of marijuana with him.
During a search of the car, police say they found what appeared to be a butane lighter in the door armrest next to where Lockley had been seated. Closer inspection of the lighter found that the casing was both a lighter and a switchblade knife. According to police, a spring-loaded switch was located on the side of the casing that, when pushed, exposed a concealed knife blade. The blade was a double-edged blade, more than two inches long, and was exposed and concealed solely by manipulating the spring loaded switch.
Police say Lockley was charged with having a concealed, dangerous weapon and was determined to also be wanted on a district court of Maryland bench warrant for failure to appear for a theft charge.
Lockley was taken before the district court commissioner in Ocean City, where police say he was ordered held on $5,000 bond on the bench warrant and released without bond on the possession of the switchblade.
