WALLOPSISLAND, Va. - On Thursday, OC Air Show pilots and their planes flew into the Wallops Flight Facility to begin practicing for the weekend events.
On Saturday and Sunday the beaches of Ocean City will be filled with people looking up at the planes overhead.
"Each and every year we try to put on the best show possible because we know the fans here expect that," OC Air Show Director of Public Relations Chris Dirato said.
The 12th annual event is expected to bring in thousands of people, so Dirato recomme
nds getting to the 17th street area as early as possible to get a good spot. He explains that new performers like the Canadian Snowbirds will be showing off their talents this year, as well as the popular Navy Blue Angels.
The Blue Angels already started practicing their demonstrations on Thursday to make sure everything was safe and ready to go.
"Basically we're doing a sight survey of the air space and finding all of our check points and finding any obstacles and making sure, first and foremost that the operation is safe," Flight Leader Eric Doyle said.
The weekend fun will be a nostalgic moment for Blue Angels Mass Communications Specialist Ian Cotter.
"I grew up in Delaware and we spent a lot of time driving down to Ocean City for the summertime. May have caught a couple of airshows in those years so it's really cool to be a part of the actual air show and a part of the Blue Angels and come back to Ocean City," Cotter said.
Dirato says all branches of the military will be represented during the flight shows, so it will be a very patriotic display at the beaches this weekend.
