OCEAN CITY, Md--The numbers are in, Ocean City crime rates were down last year. This is according to an annual report done by police department.
The report shows motor vehicle theft dropped by 45% compared to 2017. Rape also dropped by 40% and robbery by 36%.
George Balunis lives in Ocean City and says reading the annual report is a great feeling.
"It makes me feel safer knowing, there's a decrease in crime," says Balunis.
The report shows an overall 14% decrease in crimes from 2017, a number Ocean City Police Chief, Ross Buzzuro says is a significant drop.
"We're very fortunate to see significant decreases in crime on the violent crime side," says Chief Buzzuro.
The chief says the decline in crime is due to how they place personnel throughout the town.
"Strategy and deployment is very important. We deliberately place officers at the right place and at the right time."
The Chief says the annual report also points out a decrease in the homeless population in Ocean City.
