OCEAN CITY, Md.- Ocean City was still cleaning up Friday from the damage caused by last weekend's winter storm.
Parts of the town saw major flooding, and the Ocean City Pier was damaged. It is currently closed to all pedestrians.
Trash lined the beach both above and below the sand.
Jen Backof, one of the volunteers helping to pick up trash on the beach remembered the day they started cleaning up.
"I was down by the inlet, and you couldn't even see the boardwalk. Everything was covered in sand, debris, there were some business owners that were out kind of trying to fix things up that had been broken down during the storm," she said.
The volunteers have been hard at work. They are led by Bob Banach who started this campaign on social media.
"We started down there at the Jolly Roger Pier. It took us three days just to move about three blocks," he said.
A pile of debris stood in the inlet parking lot. Fences, metal cans and street signs all sat there after being washed away by flood waters.
The franchisee of the Ocean City Pier told WBOC Friday that they are planning to rebuild it.
"We started the process last Monday with our engineers, and the city's engineers, assessing the damage and formulating a plan," the company said in a statement.
The franchisee is working closely with the Ocean City Mayor to have the pier back up and running by Memorial Day, according to the statement.
