CLAYTON, Del. - Delaware State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving three motorcycles near Clayton, Delaware.
Police said Sunday, it happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Delaney Maryland Line Road and Clayton Delaney Road. Troopers said 67-year-old Anthony P. Tomme, and 56-year-old John B. Tomme, who are cousins from New Castle, were driving their Harley Davidson motorcycles approaching the “y” intersection at the same time as 27-year-old David R. Staley of Smyrna was driving his Honda CR9 motorcycle approaching the same intersection. Police said the Tomme cousins had a stop sign and Staley had the right of way. Police said the Tomme cousins stopped at the intersection then continued on, but John Tomme collided nearly head-on with Staley. Police said John’s motorcycle came to a stop in the intersection, while Staley’s traveled off the south side of the roadway and into a wooded area. Both were ejected from their motorcycles. At the same time, police said Anthony Tomme’s motorcycle fell onto its side on top of him.
Anthony Tomme, who was wearing a skull cap style helmet, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
John Tomme was removed from the scene by Delaware State Police Aviation and flown to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted with undetermined injuries, according to police. It is unknown if he was wearing a helmet.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this case. Delaney Maryland Line Road at Clayton Delaney Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
