MILTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that killed one man and injured his wife Monday in Milton.
According to police, the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. on Monday as Darrell E. Waller Jr., 56, of Pittsburgh, was operating a 2004 Harley-Davison motorcycle westbound on Broadkill Road west of Bay Shore Drive approaching a sharp right curve. Police said for unknown reasons, Waller failed to negotiate the turn and crossed the eastbound lanes, exited the south side of the road and struck a road sign. The motorcycle then descended an embankment, ejecting Waller and his wife into the marsh, according to police.
Darrell Waller, who was wearing an approved DOT helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple injuries sustained in the crash, according to police.
Lucinda Waller, 56, of Pittsburgh, was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare where she was admitted with undetermined injuries, according to police. Police said Waller was also wearing an approved DOT helmet.
The Delaware State Police Collission Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors in this case, according to police. Traffic on Broadkill Road was limited to intermittent lane closures for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
